City of Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon is a city in the county seat of Franklin County, Texas in the northeastern part of the state. The population was 2,662 at the 2010 census. The area was first settled in the mid-1840's, the first town was originally called Keith and was renamed Lone Star in 1850. Although the name was not officially changed to Mount Vernon until September 1875, the town was generally known as Mount Vernon much earlier than that. Mount Vernon is located on Interstate 30 between Dallas and Texarkana.

Franklin County
Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 10,605. The county seat is Mount Vernon. The County population doubles during the summer months, with seasonal residents flocking to Lake Cypress Springs and Lake Bob Sandlin.

Northeast Texas
Northeast Texas is a region in the northeast corner of the state of Texas. Most of Northeast Texas is included in the interstate region of the Arklatex. Our climate is warmer and wetter than most of Texas and its geography is more hilly and forested. Many of the largest cities in Northeast Texas still follow a rural Southern way of life.

Major Roadways
Interstate 30 (I-30) is a 367 mile expressway in the southern states of Texas and Arkansas. I-30 travels from I-20 west of Fort Worth, Texas, northeast via Dallas, and Texarkana, Texas, to I-40 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The highway parallels U.S. Route 67 (US 67), also known as part of the famous Bankhead Highway that runs from Washington D.C. to San Diego.
