Building Permits

A Building Permit is required for any alteration or construction work.

The City of Mount Vernon uses the 2018 Building Codes and 2020 Electrical Codes.

Before a building permit will be issued the City of Mount Vernon must approve all plans and documents related to the permit application.

All Contractors performing work within the City of Mount Vernon's jurisdiction must be registered with the City and provide proof of commercial general liability insurance for claims of property damage or bodily injury.

Any structural change within the City of Mount Vernon will require a building permit.

Permit Submittal

The permit documents and fees will be submitted to the City. Submittal documents should be complete to expedite plan review and permit issuance.

Plan Review

Please contact the City of Mount Vernon to request inspections. Inspections will be scheduled as an inspector becomes available, which is typically 24 hours. Inspections cannot be scheduled on the same day requested.
